DUBAI: This is the moment when Storm the rescue dog, became the rescuer. The gallant golden retriever was out for a walk with his owner, Mark Freeley, when he spotted a fawn (baby deer) in difficulties in the water.
The video has been shared across the world’s media, making Storm somewhat of an American and international hero. Freeley and Storm have appeared in interviews with Fox News, CBS and the Washington Post, as well as many others. The video on Freeley's Facebook account has attracted more than 3 million views, with a selection of shared videos on YouTube attracting thousands more.
In the video Storm can be seen as he ran into the water and swam out to the struggling deer and started pulling it back towards the beach.
“Storm just plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck and brought it back out of the water,” said Freeley, speaking to CBS News.
He said when the dog got to the shore the deer started walking away, but lay on the ground. So a concerned Storm “started nudging the fawn with his nose to see if it was okay,” Freeley added.
But the drama did not end there, as the little deer started to come round, it appeared spooked by its rescuer, Storm and ran back into the water prompting a second rescue.
The fawn was taken to an animal rescue center where it is now recovering.
